Why this project ?

This project holds its importance in the fact that public transport is one of the most important areas of concern right now because of the major expansion work going on for the Commonwealth games in 2010 in order to cater to the needs of the large number of tourists expected.

Authorities such as the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation Limited- DMRCL and the Delhi Transport Corporation- DTC have detailed plans for expansion aimed for the years 2010 because of the tourist influx and according to official estimates, 2 million foreign tourists and 3.5 million domestic tourists are likely to arrive in Delhi in 2010 . To prepare the city, the Indian government is pouring an estimated Rs.18,000 crore for it to be ready in time for the 2010 games. This money will be used to give the entire city a face lift, including the construction of new roads, an increase in public transport, the construction of new power plants, water utility services, the games village, city beautification, better connectivity, traffic management, parking, security and health services etc.

As stated above the future plans of this massive expansion plans for the public transport in Delhi presents this opportunity to explore and understand the present system existent and map all the possible information that will be required for easy commuting in the year 2010 in a consolidated form that is comprehensive, accessible and viable for situations like the ones expected during the Commonwealth Games.
